The renovation starts by chopping some trees (24 April 2005)
Getting ready for it. Let the fun begin!!
First time I operate a chainsaw. Took a bit of practice and instructions, but quickly got the hang of it.
Some tips I learned:
- If you need to chop a large tree, make a small cut from below before you chop it from above. That way, the weight of the chopped branch won't pinch the chainsaw within the cut
- Start with smaller pieces from the top, and then work your way down. Always work safely by ensuring the branch falls clear and away from where you're standing
- Hold the chainsaw with both hands, and ensure that the safety bar will engage if the saw hits a hard object and recoils.
- Make sure you keep both feet firmly on the ground, and your stance allows you to have a stable position through the cuts.
