What a massive amount of digging!! (22 October 2005)
In order for the paved area to be in a stable environment, and given we would need to build some retention walls for the lower level, the next step was to dig trenches all around for a proper concrete foundation. I must confess I never imagined I'd have to do so much digging for this project!! Given the nature of the ground (clay), I had a HARD time digging it out. Nevertheless, after about 2 months of digging, the trenches were ready for the next step - setting the formwork for the concrete pour.
Trenches on the side of the house needed to be wider to allow for proper ventilation and avoid humidity problems later on
Formwork of steps between the high and low levels.
